Cantores Celestes Maritimes began in June 2022 through the vision of Kelly Galbraith, whos wiftly and successfully established an outstanding treble voice ensemble dedicated to presenting an expansive classical repertoire. Since it’s inception the choir has grown significantly and hasbeen proud to present concerts featuring works by Hildegard von Bingham, R. Murray Schafer, Daniel Pinkham, and Antonio Vivaldi.
The Saint John Men's Chorus was started under the direction of David Mitchell in 2004 and is proud to be celebrating 20 years performing together. Saint John has many choral groups, but few uniquely tenor/baritone groups performing a classical repertoire. Under diverse and gifted directors and through the dedication and talent of the chorus members, the group has grown and evolved. In 2020, Kelly Galbraith assumed the role of director and with effervescent and energetic leadership has taken the Men's Chorus to a new level of performance. A well rounded repertoire has established the Saint John Men’s Chorus as a truly dominant force in the Saint John music scene, while drawing new members and younger performers to the group.
From September 2022, the Saint John Men’s Chorus and Cantores Celestes Maritimes have collaborated to present several concerts, with every concert selling out and generating exceptionally enthusiastic response from audience members. Each concert features musical works carefully curated to support a central theme, striving to spotlight Canadian composers, and reflect a rich, diverse cultural mosaic.
Community involvement and investment is important to everyone in the Saint John Men’s Chorus and Cantores Celestes Maritimes. To this end, with every concert the choirs join forces and select a community outreach program that is significant to them. During the concert, a monetary donation is made to a program representative. Information about the selected program is featured in the concert programme notes with the goal of raising awareness and drawing support and program participation from the audience.
Personal financial investment in their choir is made by each member. This helps offset basic operational costs such as rehearsal and concert space rentals, director and accompanist honourariums, musician fees and purchasing music. Sponsors who partner with the Saint John Men’s Chorus and/or Cantores Celestes Maritimes enable that choir to continue to present superior musical experiences to audiences in Saint John and surrounding areas, as well as jointly endowing community outreach programs. An investment in the choir will aid in the development and realization of future goals such as producing recordings, and representation at choral events and venues in the Maritimes and beyond.
Sponsor participation is payment for advertising services offered by The Saint John Men’s Chorus and/or Cantores Celestes Maritimes and are a business expense. Receipts are provided to sponsors.
